will any compression fittings work on the rigid plastic plumbing pipes found in mobile homes?

im doing plumbing work in an old mobile home and it has that stupid gray plastic water lines, do i need those 'quest' fittings or can i use regular compression fittings.

  1. You need the fittings designed for the pipe your using. The regular compression fittings for copper pipe will bite through the plastic before they seal, ruining the fitting and the pipe.

  4. Don't use the Quest fittings I don't even know if they still make them because they were so troublesome. Genova makes a variety of types that will work great. I used them about 15 years ago to install a water heater, (didn't want to bother with soldering) and they haven't leaked a drop. They use a compression system with a retainer and O-ring. Made out of CPVC, they work with any plastic pipe or copper. I extended the existing copper with polybutylene and connected to the heater.
