Illegal plumbing fittings?

My brother is a plumber and recently installed a new tap, but washer was made in Taiwan - not even a european country. Bought from B and Qs. Is the fitting an illegal fitting if it goes wrong? He is concerned regarding his insurance...taken out via BPEC.

  1. If he's concerned - why did he fit it anyway - I'm no plumber but have fitted my own taps before - bathroom and kitchen - never had a problem with the washers I bought from B&Q
  2. if B & Q sell them then they will have had to have passed EU regulation to be used in this country so all should be fine.
  3. If the washer was made from the same sheet of rubber stamped out by a machine in France, would that suddenly make it "legal"? I think he is worrying unduly.
  4. So many items are now made in the far east and sold in our shops. They are not illegal but they could be inferior and fail at a bad time. They might even cause other damage. B&Q will be responsible if there is a major problem and I suggest that when buying anything for what ever the application that we shouls all ask the question: Where is it made? If not British refuse it and ask for an alternative.
  5. Provided it has an EU or BS number I don't see a problem.
  6. don't be daft ..of coarse its not illegal .band q are too big a firm to do that sort of thing
  7. There arnt many taps made in Britain now anyway, but getting it from a large chain like B&Q i would have to say he should be OK. Also as had been said before, if it has some sort of BS number or EU number, he will be OK
  8. It is not an illegal fitting,. it was bought from a leading DIY store. If anything goes wrong, B&Q would be held responsible for selling shoddy goods.
