Can I unclog a slow drain myself?

I've tried drano and drano like products but nothing has worked. I'm pretty handy but my plumbing experience is limited to changing out hardware. Is there a tool I can rent/buy or another method that I don't know of. Not many tasks around the house are too big for me and I'm trying to save money

  1. You could try renting or purchasing a plumbing snake. Also, try putting baking soda down the drain and follow with vinegar - I actually cleared a drain doing this after I had tried everything else including the trap and the snake.
  2. Go to your nearest hardware store and purchase a snake. It's the same thing a plumber will use and will cost you less money than having one come out to your house. Snaking the drain is the first thing they will do on a service call anyway. If the snake doesn't work though, you may have to get a plumber to come out anyway.
  3. is it a sink or a tub. in order to do a tub drain, close the drain , turn the plug counterclock wise. it will unscrew while it is closed. this normally clogs with hair, use tweezers to clean it, then replace it when done.
  4. Drano
  5. i,d try using caustic lye. but be very careful it is avery strong alkali and dangerous.if you have a mishap, wash quickly and aply vinegar fast!!!!
  6. You can try the plunger. You can also take the "P" trap off and make sure it is clear through there. You can also purchases a small hand held "snake" at Home Depot" If it's running slow, the Drano should have helped. Good Luck!!!
  7. Sure..get yourself a plumber's snake. It only costs about $10 from any hardware or home improvement store. And it cleans out clogs really easily. You just end up turning a handle that feeds a coiled wire, and the tool does the rest. (It literally reams out the drain.) Easy and efficient.
  8. buy a product that has ENZYMES
  9. Sulphuric Acid sold in hardware or plumbing supply stores. Pour slowly in drain until clear.
