How would you negotiate your salary in this situation?
Audio/Visual Job: 1999-2005 Start: $10.00hr End: $12.61hr Plumbing Jobs: Dec 2006-Present 1st) $10.00hr Starting and Ending 2nd) Start: $11.00hr End: $12.00hr 3rd) Start: $11.00hr End: $12.00hr My Audio/Visual experience yielded skills which can be used in Plumbing. Ex...I learned how to work with tools and some basic construction skills along with how to work in construction environments. I have been in Plumbing now for one and a half years. I am sick to death of being pushed back when I take a new job and want to get to $14.00 an hour. This is where I feel I should be at this point. I have just joined the Plumbing Union and fear that the employer will try this $11-12hr garbage on me.

- i would check online see if local contractors are hiring then negotiate thouroghly investigate all of the options before asking for higher wages
- If your experience and knowledge can command it then I would suggest letting this be known. If there is a minimum amount that you want to make then do not accept any job that offers you less. Most lower level jobs are not open to negotiation, so don't settle because the potential employer offers you 12.75 and that is close enough.
- You answered your own question, Brother. Next, when are your Union meetings, where's your contract book, who's your business agent, etc... Lastly, you should no longer have any fear of any employer! Fraternally, ILWU-Local 10 Union Sister
