Bathtub Faucet Plumbing seat hopeless!?
I am starting to feel hopeless.........our house was built in 72. I have tried to fix a leak in my hot water bathtub faucet, replaced washers, some recommended checking the seat when it still leaked. it is gouged and cracked it looks like. I have the tool to get it out but it nor the cold will budge, and I've had MEN try and try. What can I do? Am I going to have to replace the whole piping back there also? if any one has any tricks to get this baby out I would kiss your feet. Also, even if I get it out, I bought new faucet handles.......I have a sneaking suspicion its not going to fit for ALL the parts look much larger than what I took out. The part where the seat is, is it possible that the general size in 72 is different than the general size today? And if so then what?? Any idea what it MIGHT cost to have plumber fix? I can solder........but that is a LOT of joints to replace all that back there. Again......feelin real helpless and too much longer I'll be stinky!

- You could try a pipe cutter and cut below the faucet. Then clean the cut and surrounding area. Then get a pipe that will fit that pipe to the new pipes. It's like a cut and paste operation.
- Call the plumbers in your area and get free estimates! More than likely you will need it replaced.
- if you have replaceable valve seats they could be reverse thread try turning in the other direction
- 72 pretty old. It sounds like you have alot of time invested in this plumbing project already. I would cut your losses, buy a nice new valve and get a friend or plumber to install it.Its not to tough of a job and shouldn't cost to much. It sounds like you gave it your all.You can be proud of that. Good luck
- use a large flathead screwdriver or go to homedepot and by a seat wrench. It will come out, I promise. Tap the wrench in the seat so it dont slip. IM me for further instruction if ya need. no way replace a faucet because of a $0.25 seat
