Please help me with the bathroom plumbing issue!!! I bumped the pipe loose from the bottom of the sink???
We just moved into this house two weeks ago and I'm already breaking it! First off, forgive my plumbing lingo...I don't know this stuff. I pushed a box under the bathroom sink. When I did it, it loosened the connection of the pipe that connects the sink drain. I tried to tighten it back up, but when I did that the silver ring in the sink popped off. Is there a website that can explain how to fix this? I can tell that it isn't too complicated, but I want to do it right. Also, there is this SUPER smelly jelly stuff all on the inside that I'd like to clean out first, but I'm afraid to take apart pieces if I can't get it back together. Are there alot of little parts in there? Oh, please give me directions before my husband gets home. I want to show him that I can fix it. Please help. The straight pipe that connects directly to the bottom of the sink. The actuall little stopper "fell" into the sink hole about two inches. I see that it seems like the silver ring in the bottom of the sink bowl should connect to the pipe, but it's as though the pipe doesn't reach. I FIXED IT ! ! ! I am so proud of myself! My first home repair........oh, the memories I'm creating! Thanks for all the help!

- Do you have a local home improvement store nearby? First I would call them and ask for someone in Plumbing. Then ask them what to do...they should be able to give you step by step instructions over the phone. If there isn't one locally, type in 'plumbinginfo.com' in your browser and it should bring something up where you can find some help! Good luck!
- go to the local Home Depot/Lowes and buy the book on plumbing it runs $14.95. Make sure you wear gloves when changing this out , that stuff could be toxic which all drains have, and it stinks like crazy
- First of all I am still not sure what part you are talking about. You said the connection to the sink drain. If it is the actuall drain and not the plunger that stops the water from draining then to start with,if it is PVC pipe you will have below the sink a connection that will loosen where there is a"horseshoe".Loosen the one closest the sink drain, you may have one on each end of that "horseshoe" connection. If it is not PVC or plastic you will need to get a pluber.I must say that it was not the force of box that loosened the pipe.It was probably already loose. If there is any additional info you could add it would help on telling you how to fix it.Again if it is PVC it will be easy to fix.The "silver ring you talk about may be the part that screws in to the PVC right uder the sink.I hope this helps some.It is hard to explain with minimal info.
