Where do I get metal plumbing parts for my clawfoot tub re-surfaced for a reasonable price?

Hi. I would like to have the hardware for my clawfoot tub refinished. Need the handles, drains, pipes etc. re-plated with chrome or brass. Looked in the net and was very expensive to have done professionally by a company that specializes in the area ,(over 1K) ug... have a budget to work in. Any ideas or thoughts for replating? Thanks for the input.

  1. Chrome is a bit expensive, but find someone that chromes for motorcycles or old cars. Also it may be cheaper to buy new parts. Check out Renovators Supply and Van Dyke's Restorers. Check out Lowe's and Home Depot. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy new than to renovate and it brings you up to code concerning consumption of water usage and such. Less chance of leakage down the road and available repair parts.
  2. the new faucets for the old clawfoot tubs are cheaper now than having them refinished your plumbing supply showroom will be able to help you out there with many styles as clawfoot tubs are making a small comeback. having the tub re done would benefit also take it to someone who does powder coating. it is worth spending the money as bathroom reno's can get you up to 85% of your money back if you resell your house, plus its a great conversation piece for family and friends, if you are stuck on refinnishing the old hardware you are going to have to do alot of phoning to get the best price. once all back together have all your seals and washers repaired or replaced so you have many free years
  3. Restoration Hardware.
