Re plumbing ?
I have just purchased a new/old house and just starting to put down a plan of action on the plumbing. Question; is it worth of even thinking about running copper piping verses plastic ? Would the cost between the 2 be a big one ? Luckily all the rooms that need to be re plumbed are pretty much over the top of each other and the same wall all the way up will keep things simple. Thanks for your time. This re plumbing is just for water purposes only.

- I would definately choose copper piping over plastic...but thats just me. It does cost more...but it's just my personal preference.
- If you had galvanized iron pipes, I'd definitely go to copper. If your PVC/ABS pipes aren't leaking, etc., don't bother. Copper is easier to work on, generally, because plastic is glued for the most part. But if your pipes are OK, leave them be.
- I would go with plastic over copper just because of the price .
- usually copper piping is used for water supply as where the old supply lines were iron (black pipe) - if you have kids i would switch to copper - its much safer , safer no matter what but especially unsafe for kids. and usually pvc plastic piping is used for the water discharge as where the old drain lines were steel , if you have old steel it will sooner or later ( and probley sooner) rot out and you will end up with leaks all over the place, the traps are usually the first to leak and some people replace just those to keep costs down.
- PVC, CPVC, PEX? Water, gas, waste?
- you might want to price both and then decide
