How do I start a gas fireplace?

Ok, I know how to start fires...lol...but I never had a gas fire place. I just don't wanna fill my house up with smoke, so I want to do it right the first time. What are the steps to starting the gas fireplace. I got the right wood (my landlord supplies the wood). To let you know, theres the little knob on the front to open the shoot door in the chimney, and theres a knob on the side at the bottom. I guess thats the gas. Then theres a lightswitch like directly on the side of the fireplace also. Please help...I got some nice lookin ladies with big booties coming over..lol (i know that wasnt neccessary, but I need that fire...lol)

  1. You want to make sure the damper is open so the smoke will go up the chimney. Turn on the gas briefly to purge any air in the line because it will blow out the match. When you smell the gas, shut it off for about ten minutes. Now that the lines are full of gas because the air has been purged, go ahead and light a match then turn the gas on slightly. Once you have a flame, you can turn it up as high as you want. The light switch may be to activate a blower to force the heated air to circulate through your home.
