Is the fact that my gas fireplace beeping good?

Now, the gas fireplace has been on all day, or close to it. I was sitting here and not too long ago, the thing began to beep very rapidly and shut off (the blower remained on and is still going), though the beeping is continuing at a slower pace now. Once every few seconds or so. I've sniffed around, and from what I can tell, there's no gas leak. The pilot light is still on, and I've brought a carbon monoxide alarm to the room and it's only sitting about 20 feet away. This is the first time this gas fireplace has had this beeping episode, but I'm still considerably worried. After all. It is a gas fireplace. The blower has since turned off, though the beeping continues! Thanks, Ice. Like you've said, I have checked the pilot light, and it is still on, even blue in colour like it should be. Honestly, it's really confusing. I've yet to smell any gas.

  1. I would definitely get someone in there to look at it. Check to see if the pilot light is still running. You definitely want that to be on so gas does not leak out into your house. Anything to do with gas coming into the house should be handled with care. If the fireplace has shut off randomly then that is due to a safety feature. I am sure they put some safety procedure in those so that they shut off before any damage is done.
  2. I would have to say if it is beeping that is not a good sign. Try and find the model number on it and look online (probably the manufacturer's web site) and look in the troubleshooting section. There are just to many different types of gas fireplaces and I would hate to venture a guess at what is causing it and be wrong. Good luck!
  3. Whenever I've had problems with my gas fireplace I've always called the repair person in. Your gas company should have someone that would come out for free and check it out for you.
