turning wood fireplace into gas fireplace?

I have a woodburning fireplace, with a gas line already in place. Changed over to vent free gas logs. works great but I dont seem to get alot of heat from this. Question Do i have to leave my chimney damper open when I turn the fireplace on? It seems like its all going through the roof.

  1. if its vent free close damper blow all heat up chimney could probably close chimney off if not in use any more CAUTION make sure if you have gas water heater or furnace you dont cover that flue as well if no longer burning wood no sense in having flue
  2. if you have vent free logs, then close the flew of the chimney, you can also adjust the flame to get more heat
  3. CLOSE YOUR FLUME.MOST GAS REQUIRE A SHEILD ON THE UPPER PART OF YOUR PIT.THIS IS TO DEFLECT HEAT OUT THE DOOR.nOT REQUIRED BUT ITS BEST TO HAVE.CHECK SOME FIREPLACE EXPERTS.
