Gas fireplace flame does not go high enough?

My gas fireplace flames don't get very high. The flames barely reach the top of the logs and there's hardly any yellow flame so you can barely tell that it's on--so much for creating a cozy atmosphere. The gas line is turned up as high as it goes and comes directly from the main pipe. There are no other valves outside of the firebox that can be turned and the fireplace valve is turned all the way up. Any ideas? Do I need to buy a new insert? How can I get more yellow flame? The air control lever...Does a sealed unit have this also--one that draws its air for combustion from outside?

  1. CHECK THE VENTICALS COULD BE DIRTY
  2. A service man can adjust the air control lever which is located behind the burner. At the same time they can check to make sure your gas line has no leaks. We just had this done and there is a huge difference. The flames are a brighter orange and the peaks are a lot taller compared to before, they were very low and blue. Call a service man to do this. You should also do an annual inspection which includes cleaning to prolong the life of your fireplace. No need to get a new one.
