can a gas fireplace be used like a regular fireplace with regular logs and not gas logs?
i have a gas fireplace in my home that i would like to use as a regular fireplace because the gas costs too much if u use it too often. i have never had a gas fireplace before is why im asking.

- no, very dangerous
- Only if you want to burn the house down
- Some can some can not it depends on how the fire place was built. But if you have been using gas make sure you have undone all gas lines and any thing else to do with gas. Make sure the chimney is cleaned out and is in good working order for logs. Check to make sure you have fire brick inside the fire place.I have one you can use either way.
- no it cant, if you want to burn wood you have to make sure the chimney is suitable for that, if its always been gas the chimney doubtfully has dampers and all that.
- I think you should do some reconstruction may be... But have a talk with someone who really know what is he doing...(professional) Thanks, Stoyan http://www.interiordesignernow.info
- Gas fireplaces come in several types. The two main types are vented and vent less. Vented require some kind of exhaust and are not very efficient. The vent less do not require an exhaust and are very efficient. I have seen the vent less used as a standalone unit, with no chimney. If this is the case for you, then absolutely there is no way to use it with wood. If the gas logs are an insert into an existing fireplace, like I have in my home, then you can use it with wood. On a note of caution, you might want to protect the gas hose from getting too hot, and make sure the flue is open.
- NO. NO. NO. Not unless you plan to blow up your home and yourself. There are still gas lines going to the area.
