Is it safe to place a LCD flat screen TV on a wall above a fireplace?

Many people do this. Is this a fireplace that you use? Does the fireplace have a mantle? All fireplaces at one time or another have back draft. Do you want smoke and heat all over your very expensive TV? The most common mistake people make when hanging a TV on the wall is placing it too high. The TV should be placed so that the center of the screen is at eye level when seated. Placing a TV above a fireplace mantle will make it way too high. Is this a masonary fireplace? Although mounting the TV to a masonary or brick surface is a relatively minor obstacle, how do you plan on hiding the wires? You will need to somehow get power, coax, DVD signal (RGB or HDMI), to the TV as well as audio from the TV to your sound system. Safe? Probably. Practical? Probably not.
I heard this question before. Not ideal. Make sure you don't have heat radiating to where the TV will be. If so, then it is not recommended. It would be anywhere from lowering the logevity of the TV to being dangerous. H a p p y H o m e T h e a t e r i n g !
