I am hanging my flat screen above the non working fireplace. How do I get electricity to it?

Can I cut a hole in the plaster walls behind the TV and run the cords to it?

  1. not a good idea since heat and flat panal do not mix! It may melt no pretty
  2. You may need to have a licensed electricial do that work for you. OR you may be able to do the work yourself and just have a licensed electrician certify that the work was done properly. Laws are different all over so you would need to check with someone knowledgeable in your area. Also, if you are planning on running other wires in the wall you will probably have to keep the low voltage wires away from the 120VAC wires.
  3. You can do that, but it's best that an electrician come out and mount a new plug behind the TV.....then cut out a rectangle to fit the cabling behind the TV too... It will flush mount better if you do it that way....
