TV over gas fireplace?

I want to put the flat screen above the fireplace and i know the wires should go in the wall which a tech can figure out, but....where do you put ypur "cable tv" box and stuff? It looks so easy on those home shows......

  1. I really don't think it would be a good idea to put a tv above any kind of fireplace. The heat rises and may damage the tv.
  2. In the alcove to the side of the fire.
  3. Basically, anywhere you want. there's no rule that says they must be adjacent to the TV.
  4. You can place the equipment anywhere you'd like as the tech can create the necessary connections. Your final decision will be based on $$$. Mounting a TV over a fireplace cost much more than mounting on the wall as it's more difficult and time consuming. You may even need an electrician to come in and install an outlet behind the TV if there's no way to safely hide the cord. Expect to spend at least $500 + parts for this type of install.
  5. You can run the cables round the mantelpiece then next to the actual fireplace then, there should be a plug on the wall at the side of your fireplace, To put your cable box in i think you would have to put them down somewere on the floor, or you can put it on another wall and get a bit of wall dug out to fit you cable box and other things in. Then you can get the cables to run out the back of the tv, into the wall and down into the cable box and you wouldnt see all the cables. Good Luck!
