What do you think about a flat screen above a fireplace?

So we just bought a flat screen t.v. I'm not into the giant t.v.s but we bought a 42 inch - which is big enough. We could put it on a stand or we could put it above our fireplace. I would love to have it on a wall (fireplace) instead of a stand, for space issues. My husband said you can't put it about the fireplace because people don't want to look up at the screen from a sitting position. What do you think? Where is the best place.

  1. whoa buddy badddd idea seriously. ur husband's got the right idea. best place is on a blank expanse of wall where it cant be distracted by other things (like FIRE)
  2. I don't think above the fireplace is a good idea. Fireplaces can REALLY heat up a home sometimes and what if the heat does something to your TV? I suggest a stand
  3. Don't to it it gets extremely hot, and most likly will break. Also your veiw will not be to good because of the hot air rising. Bad idea in general.
  4. Any Problem with Heat???
  5. I would put it on a stand. It might save space to mount it about a fireplace, but i know that i love to sit in front of the fireplace and watch tv. Your husband is right- It might hurt your neck if you look up at it for too long also.
  6. I wouldn't do it if it were mine, after about 5 minutes you'd probably get a bad head or neck ache. My brother did this at their cottage and it's almost impossible to watch for more than 10 minutes. The heat from you fireplace may also void your warranty if you had problems with the set in the future.
  7. I have one and I love it! We have a 60 inch one and we had a professional contractor put it right on the wall with a secure holder we bought for it....We have our own personal movie theater in our living room and we lie on the couch and suggle and watch a movie almost every night,,,,GO FOR IT<<<YOU WILL LOVE IT....most people hang a picture there anyway,,,We have a moving picture that is all....We have a gas fireplace though,,,and was told it was totally fine for it....if you have a real fireplace I would ask if it would be ok to use it because of the TV......
