Can I use a fireplace cover as the screen in a radiator cover?
I am building rad covers as part of my childproofing, but am finding it impossible to find the decorative screens required. Can I use fireplace screens instead? Or, any other ideas?

- Sure they'll work. But what'll you do about the fireplace then?? You can get that material at many hardware stores, and home improvement stores. It's classed as extruded aluminum, and comes with several different designs of holes. Usually, it's about 30 or 36 inches square. If you need something bigger, you'll have to butt two sheets together. Good luck on that. I haven't seen radiator covers like that for years!
- You can purchase decorative screens at Home Depot. They are tucked away in a small corner near the insulation, but they do have them. I purchased mine there. I have also seen them at Rocky's(Ace). Other than that I suppose you could use a fireplace screen. Good luck!
- Build a wooden box to cover your radiator. It needs to be 6" in all around larger than the radiator. Cut a pattern in the front with a riciprocating saw to vent the heat into the room.
