How long do gas fireplace inserts usually last?

My gas fireplace is 14 years old and needs some repairs. Wondering if it is on it's last legs and should I buy a new one.

The unit is a mechanical device with hoses and valves. It can deteriorate after time and just like an old BBQ, will need to be replaced. It really depends on the condition of each component. If you are qualified to inspect it, you may notice something mechanical which would require service.If you are not qualified, check for normal operation. For the record these manufacturers constantly recall gas log sets or discontinue them making it hard to find approved components for repairs.
