painting formica cabinets?
i want to paint my kitchen cabinets.... how important is it that i sand them ?? some people say there are really good primers out there that stick to anything regardless of what material...

- Some primers use "no sanding required" in their sales pitch but, you really should at least scuff the surface to obtain a surface that will "hold" the primer. In any improvement project, the foundation is the most important step. All your work and money could be for naught if it starts peeling shortly after completion.
- Modern primers are good, just make sure you know the compisition of what you are painting. Plastic requires a different primer than wood; etc. Spray painting gives the nicest results.
- Check out Benjamin Moore. They have a product called "Fresh Start" - I think they still have it. I painted overtop of my linoleoum floors with it - comes in whatever colour you want! good luck.
