Painting kitchen cabinets?

I read from another asker, she said she wanted to paint her kitchen cabinets white then put a dark glaze over it to give that expensive look... i was thinking of doing that also... i read about that somewhere else and thaught that would be a better alternative for me to paint my cabinets (bc replacing them is really expensive). Well the look i was trying to do for is a maple or oak look and when i read that article it kind of gave me an idea on how to do that... I was wondering if any one has ever tried it? Did it come out good? What kinds of white paint and glaze should i use? What kind of paint brush? things like that..... Or if anyone has a different idea that i could use, i would also appreciate that.

  1. I have a few ideas.
  2. Trying staining. Your cabinets may already be oak or maple underneath. Sand off the paint or finished down to the bare wood, wash with a damp towel, pre-treat the wood with pre-condition water treatment and then stain with two coast of maple or oak stain. This will allow for the natural grains in the wood to come through but at the same time give it the maple or oak look you are looking for. I did with a Mahogany stain. I came out for the first but I will be able the time I do. Always room for improvement.
  3. After I refinished my kitchen cabinets, all my friends wanted theirs the same. First the cabinet it's self i stained golden oak, then the doors and drawer faces I painted almond and I used old fashion looking porcelain knobs. It looked beautiful.
