Painting kitchen cabinets...?

Ill be painting my kitchen cabinets white and then applying a light mocha glaze over the white. Hopefullly they will look like the expensive ones you see at lowes. How do I apply the galze to get that professional look? What type of brush? And what type of clear drying varnish do I use for the last step? Oh yeah, and the type of sand paper to get them that smooth texture? THNX

  1. For sand paper; go with Wet or Dry...500 grit.
  2. Here's a link to a good article on painting your cabinets. Also, the Armstrong tile company has a great website with tools for decorating the kitchen and trying out different looks.
  3. ask the store, where u bought it?
  4. why paint natural wood i'll never understand but use a fine grit sandpaper and the type of brush should say use for varnishing right on it and probably a high gloss to make them shine
  5. If there were a "do it yourself "way to make $2000 cabinets look like $15,000 cabinets, you would need a few hundred thousand dollars for tools including downdraft dustless spray booths that prevent bubbles or surface irregularities, finishes that contain top quality compounds like titinium, good acrylic emulsions, for best adhesion, scrubbability and fade or yellow resistance!! Stay away from DIY shops, as most times when you see the end result.....It looks like you did it yourself in the garage !!
