Painting Kitchen Cabinets... Help Please?
I have these old 80's kitchen cabinets... but they are in good condition. so i decided to paint them this cream color... anyone knows what is the correct way to do it (i heard you need to sand them first, and other things.... prior to painting) and the paint i need to use is millwork paint right? Please help....

- If they are really old a good wash with sugarsoap will get any intitial grime off the cupboards and then a good sand with a fine sandpaper before you paint.
- Yes, you will need to sand them, then primer them. As for the paint, I don't think you have to use millwork paint, but then again I'm not an expert on paint. If you sand and primer them, then any puality paint should do well.
- You should wash them with sugar soap, no need to sand them unless they already have a finish on them. If they do have a finish on them you may need to cut it right back to bare timber, unless the product you plan to apply is very similar. This is because the paints expand and contract at different rates and this can cause cracking. Not sure what millwork is but you need to use a finish that dries very hard, and does not mark easy. Normal paint that you would use to paint your walls is unsuitable. Some company's sell a polyurethane lacquer that comes in colours. this product is ideal, and dries quickly, however it would be difficult to brush on.
- Wash them to remove grease and dirt. Sand them to rough up the surface. Prime them so the paint will stick properly. Paint them to whatever color you like.
