Can electrolysis between galvanized & copper cause water taste problems in household plumbing?
Public Comments
- yes
- I should think so. Galvanic corrosion will be leaching metals into the water supply - that has to have an effect.
- yes, the rusted galvanized pipe causes that metallic taste and the red stains. if you have a direct connection between those types of pipe you should fix it. electrolysis will speed up the corrosion process considerably. rust tastes nasty but is very good for you. iron deficiency will not be your problem.
- You'll get a copper tast..and joints will start to carrode up..Your friend in Tennessee...ROB
- yes...tastes like zinc??? If you have copper to galvanized, you have a bigger problem than taste...your pipes will deteriorate rapidly, the galvanized will fill with copper "sponge" and clog, the copper will thin and burst...change this asap...before you have a flood going on. That is why they use bronze adapters to join the two, or rubber with steel sleeve. Good luck
- yes it can..
