Ensuite in master bedroom?

Hi, A question from DIY newbee. Pls help. I have a detached house. The first floor has three bedrooms and a common bathroom. I want to add an ensuite to the master bedroom. I just wanna know how will the plumbing work. Is it easy to run the plumbing pipe around? I am just not able to visualize how the water/sewage pipes will run. Is it easy to have these kind of modifications done in the house? Regards, Chandan

  1. you would need them run under flooring, the hard part is the soil pipe for the toilet, it has to go straight out of the house to join up with existing soil system, or internally join to existing soil system, its not easy work but is possible, really your looking at least £3000.00 for a decent job
  2. Almost always possible to do what you want. How easy? Not possible to answer without a visit from a pro to assess the job. That's the way to get a real solution.
  3. I find it easier to get this type of work done by people with experience, but obviously it's not rocket science. You could ask your neighbours if anyone had something similar done, and if you were friendly with them, they might let you have a peek - or even give you a helping hand
  4. There's so much to consider, I personally don't think this is a job for a "DIY newbee". I, obviously, don't know the layout of your house... Can you afford to lose the space from one room or will you have to move walls? Also, to quote Sarah Beeny, "Will it add value?"
  5. You can run the hot and cold water pipes under the floorboards. As for the toilet waste pipe, this will have to be taken through an outside wall and somehow connected into your exsiting soil pipe, but I can only guess at this . i would have to see the layout of your exsisting bathroom to give better information.
  6. Get a plumber into your house and discuss with him how the various pipes should be run, but more importently the toilet waste pipe, which has to flow into a sewer, this can mean digging up the garden to expose the pipes. Be prepared for a shock when he gives you the estimate..
  7. As the house is detached then it'll be simple enough as long as you can site it against an outside wall to accomodate sewage pipe.Best case scenario is if it could be back to back with existing main bathroom making pipework so much simpler.
