Painting our kitchen...?

Kitchen has chair railing. Should we paint the same color above an below the chair railing, or a lighter color on top, darker on bottom, or vice versa. Appreicate your advice.

  1. it's really your preference... however, I have seen darker on bottom and lighter on top, makes room look bigger (easier on the eyes.) paint chair railing white or cream Be Blessed!
  2. Well this is really a personal opinion, but my husband and I like the lighter on the top darker on the bottom option!
  3. Lighter on top will give you a more spacious feel to the room.
  4. darker on the bottom, lighter on top but tone on tone. Pick the two colors from the same paint sample strip.
  5. it is your preference, i paint homes and about half are lite on top and dark on bottom, and half and the other way. about 10 years ago i did the finishes in a k.c. chiefs quarterback's home, his dining room had chair railing and the top was a deep green torntissue with jeweltone colour wash, and the bottom was bead board with a faded barnwood finish. it was dark over white. and looked good except the chair rail was white (white woodwork is a sin, the people who came up with the idea for white woodwork in a high end home are going to painter's hell, along with those that paint brick.)
