How do I peel up vinyl tile flooring off of oak hardwood flooring?I want to go back to the wood flooring.?

This stuff seems to have been glued down with whatever they had access to for glue.

  1. vinal flooring at menards ,, are classes for how to properly remove them and they dont say to use torches as some will catch fire althought heat does help the glue loosen,, just take it one step at a time, but check out menards next time your there. good luck
  2. Well turpentine, and a big sander. Unfortunately the glue sticks to the surface of the wood and must be sanded off. peel , and or pull the stuff that does come off. HEAT may be applied to loosed the adhesive but yes can cause a fire, that stuff is FLAMMABLE! Get off as much as you can , and sand sand sand. At some point you will have sanded off all of the chunks of tile and glue that remained. Then it would have to be fine sanded, treated, stain if you wish and sealed. It is a BIG job, something that you wouldnt finish your self in one weekend. It will go in steps depending on how much of time you have to devote to doing this.
