How is bamboo flooring made? Bamboo is round and the flooring is flat, how do they do that?

  1. Pretty much the same way they turn round trees into flat boards, they use saws to cut the wood lengthwise to make it square.
  2. they split the bamboo in half
  3. With steam and flattening vices. They cut the bamboo into tubes at each node, slice it along the length, and then heat it with pressurised steam and it flattens. Then they hold it flat for several hours and treat it with resins.
  4. a few ways they saw down the middle, cut it in half, or don't do anything lay them down and put that laminate or wax or whatever it is down on top to seal the cracks.
  5. all tree trunks are round, how do they make ANY kind of wood flooring?
  6. Because the bamboo stock is hollow and the wall thickness is not enough span the height of the flooring, strips of bamboo are glued together to produce a plank. The bottom 2/3 of the bamboo stock is separated into 1" strips, those strips are milled flat and square and glued together under pressure and heat to produce a billet. The billet is then milled in the bamboo flooring planks.
