What does it mean to "coil the wire"?

I'm installing some low voltage outdoor landscape lighting. The instructions say that any wiring left over at the end (after the fixtures have been put in place), well as they put it, you can just "coil the wire". What does that mean? Just coil it in a circle and tie a knot? I figured I shouldn't leave the end wire exposed.

1. like you were winding up an extension cord. wrap around hand.
2. They mean for you to just coil the wire and bury it.There is no need to tie a knot.

I usually trim all my wires to length to keep them from getting uncoiled and tripped over - but if you think you might want to move them later, you might go ahead and coil it up and use a zip tie to keep it coiled. If there is actually a hot wire that is sticking out at the end, put a wire nut on it.
