How can I make a bedroom with no windows more "lively"?

More lively, and more welcoming. It's a fairly small room in a basement which is my bedroom has flourescent lighting. I'm willing to change lighting and probably paint the room

  1. go witha lighter color.. a a strong yellow or green. Add some plants like ferns or ficus trees. and for fun.. put in that disco ball baby! wooooooo!
  2. yes..get some nice wall paper with dimensiosn..or get a wall poster taht gives u a view of the city or anything u like..like a waterfall or something..it should b a real life scene ..blown up on a poster so u feel that ur window n ur looking out at the beautiful scene...it should seem to disappear in to the horizon so it seems real.get different colors of small rugs 4 the floor..heaps u can do :)
  3. Definitely change the lighting ASAP---then I would use a mural on one wall if you have no windows, maybe a beach scene, or mountain view, a Tuscan view etc . Something that would make you want to step in and take a walk, something that gives a feeling of open space so you feel less closed in. Even a city view of a skyline at night could be really pretty make you feel like you're in a penthouse suite not a basement.
  4. And besides the other great answers, it woud be nice to give the illusion of having windows. You might get some wood window sash, the part that slides up and down, and mounting them to the wall as a window. Paint the back of the glass with an outdoor scene, or replace the glass with mirrors, Hang curtains, and presto! instant space. Lighting is extremely important, so get multiple sources. If you do the window sash thing, mount some light strips around the inside perimeter, turn on and it seems as if you have a real window in there.
  5. Small rooms with windows are definitely better with good lightning and lighter colors. Depending on your budget you could also add mirror to one wall, that would visually increase the size of the room, however, not everyone like mirrors. De cluttering the room is also important and organization. That would also make the room feel bigger. The arrangement of furniture is important. Try not to have your bed stick out into the middle of the room , but lay against the wall like a sofa, then use accent pillows with a lot of color to liven the room. Use a rug that complements those colors. Unless the floor is carpet. Hope this gives you an idea, good luck
  6. you need light bright colors, to brighten up this room.
  7. Hang a wallpaper mural that makes it look like you're outside on the beach or on a patio in Italy: http://www.muralsyourway.com/myw4-results.cfm?genre=6
  8. PAINT A FAUX WINDOW on the wall and then frame it out with molding-- add sheer curtains to the window to make it look more real also add lighting to pictures hanging on the walls and add more mirrors
