Lights in master bedroom only work when light switch is on in spare bedroom?

What happened? We put in a switch so that the light in my child's room turns on with the light switch as you enter the room, now the master bedroom electricity only works when this light switch in my daughter's room is on. Help?

  1. Sounds like the wiring of the switches got crossed somewhere. You should call in an electrician for a professional opinion.
  2. it could be the fuse box or the connecting wires in between best call an electrician a house fire is not what you want
  3. i belive you have a two way switch here ,you need to dissconect the spare bedroom one. it s feed ing of your bedroom ,basic ly it running a live feed fro m one switch to the other, very simple , you have two hots connected into one,
  4. you wired in the main supple instead of the light supply. call an electric an
  5. I wouldn't think you have a three way switch in two different bedrooms, besides if you had a three way switch at these two locations both switches would turn on both lights in the bedrooms. Most likely the master bedroom light recieved it's power through this switch box. You probably have three wires coming into the box, one supply from the service panel, one going to the light in your childs room, and one going to the master bedroom light switch. The supply from the service panel should be connected to the wire to the switch in the master bedroom, with a jumper wire to the switch in your childs bedroom. The other wire, going to the light in your childs bedroom, should connect to the other terminal on your childs bedroom switch. You need a voltage tester to find the supply wire which means turning on the power with the wires exposed to find the hot wire, but if you don't have experience in electrical wiring you should leave this job to a professional.
  6. me thinks your not telling us something...but either way you wired it wrong....everyone thinks they know electricity till they get hurt or something burns down....did you ADD a switch where there was none? if so where did you get the feed? I am guessing since your an expert....you fed it ilegally off your wall switch in your bedroom.. (i bet I'm right) Hmmmm
