My bedroom light turns off when i hit the bathroom switch?

Whenever i turn on the bathroom light, the bathroom fan, the GFI outlet in the bathroom, and the light in my bedroom will all work, but when i shut the bathroom light off they all go off with it! This happened when i had my grandfather install a new dimmer switch on the bathroom, and he cant remember how he had the wires. Ive put the old switch back on, and but there are still 3 white wires with a marette over them in the back. COuld they have something to do with it ? Help!!

  1. they got all the wires mixed up re do them it shoud work and stop hitting the bathroom switch.have a nice day
  2. it might be in series, try to call an electrician. it can help you a lot
  3. Since there is a significant risk of (a) fire or (b) electric shock, I would not rely on guidance from Yahoo Answers. I think you should bite the bullet and call an electrician. Yes, this will cost you probably $250 to fix. Sorry, I know that's not the answer you wanted to hear.
  4. Get a licensed electrician to come in and straighten out the electrical mess.
  5. You have a real serious problem here. But not a major one. With all due respect,, ARE YOU READY TO DIE IN THIS BATHROOM,, cause this is a real possibility. Do you have the knowledge to trace the wires in the box?? Do you know where the power comes in?? I s all this on one breaker?? All that said , I think you need an electrician,,, a service call should handle this ,, a good electrician will do this in an hour, or less. Dont rag grandpaw,, this is an honest mistake ,, there is a bunch of wires in that box and if you loose 1 wire,, they all look alike. Hope you hire someone ,,have a great day,,
  6. You can't do it alone if you have no knowledge of electric wirings. Get a certified electrician before you get yourself electrocuted fixing it yourself.
  7. Some how the bedroom feed got tied in to the dimmer switch or sounds like it did.Truth is nobody can solve this long distance get an electrician to help you its your best bet good luck.
  8. Don't panic. If you take care there is no reason you can't do it yourself. It most likely is a loose wire. Shut the power to the circuit off and then remove the switch that you are hitting. It is likely someone put both i\wires under one screw when they wired to continue the circuit to the other room. That is the most likely place you will find the wire loose. The other is still in the same box but where the two blacks are tied together. Just check for loose wires. You will find one and save yourself some money (and gain some experience).
