Sticky cabinet doors after painting.?

Last weekend we painted all our cabinet doors. We took down the door sanded with 100 grit, then 150 too bare wood, then 220 to finish. I primed then painted 3 coats of latex paint with light sanding between coats. Its been a week and the finish is a little sticky when you touch it. Is there anything I can do, was thinking about putting another coat of paint then a clear coat on it. Will that help with the stickiness?

  1. Don't know if this will work, but what about the spray you spray on your fingernails to instantly dry nail polish?
  2. It has to do with the humidity....is it very humid there?
  3. easy just rub a small amount of vaselene on the door, it works wonders. good luck!!
  4. its herd to work on or correct mistakes on wet paint, however if you wish to do it now and take your chances...place some acetone or thinner ( depends on oil or wtr base) on rag and rub as if you were staining the sticky spots. to further that, if you care to keep the place warmer the paint will dry faster and you can address the situation with proper sanding, steel-wool or liquid solvents. just do it in moderation as you already have expended a lot of hrs in this project and you want it right. when i do my doors and from the git; i rag stain the areas that touch and avoid touching them with thick coats of paint for this simple reason. remember, you don't see the edges when they are closed and proper closing and stained edges are easy to address.
  5. They are sticky because the paint has not "cured" yet. If you can leave the doors open while they dry and cure it will help. If it's not practical to leave the doors open then rub the contact areas that stick with candle wax. Note it may take a couple of weeks or more (depending on the humidity) for them to dry completely.
