Is there a copyright law on the design of a house in a tv show or movie?
If you liked the design of a house on a television show or movie, and you fell in love with it, would there be any copyright laws preventing you from personally hiring an architect to design it from photos of how it appears in the show or film and eventually building it? Also, If the designer of the house is unknown, would you have to contact the film makers or studio for approval?

- No there is not a copyright in that field.
- nope
- I highly doubt it. Most of the outside shots are taken of actual houses or buildings, etc., but I would think that the majority of the interior shots are studio sets, so they are not real houses. If they are actual homes, then I can't see how they would have a patent on the design. My husband & I took features from houses we have seen where ever & arranged many of the features to design our new home....
- i don't believe there is and even so with a few changes it would be an original design
- Technically, any original work is copyright. That;s the law. In every field. However, since you will not be using the actual floor plan and claiming it as an original design, simply asking an architect to design you a similar home, it would be impossible to assert breach of copyright. You would not need to seek approval unless you were using actual plans.
