- Are those measurements inches? Any metalsmith will have a book of his work. Go to several and see what they have for inspiration. They tend to be aritstic and hopefully some synergistic juices will start to flow. Iron and metal are very organic and can take any form you wish. I've seen them worked into literally, garden plants. Is there a particular thing you are passionate about? have a favorite sport, plant, or something natural that is of significnce to you? This is the entrance and your public statement to the world. What do you wish the world to know about you? If all else fails, a family crest, an animal that represents the family name, or your initials will do nicely.
