How do I fix my bathroom light cord?
The cord for the bathroom light switch was attached to a small piece of plastic protruding from the ceiling switch fitting. I pulled the cord earlier, the cord came off, and the small bit of plastic broke in half. There is now nothing to attach the string to, so I can only turn the light on and off using step ladders to pull what is left of the little plastic bit. Does anyone know how I can fix this? What can I re-attach the cord to that will switch the light on? Just to clarify - the cord hasn't broken, it is the plastic part that the cord knots onto that has broken, bringing the complete cord down with it. Sounds like a new fitting is my only option?

- You have to buy a new assembly part for your light. Try your local hardware store for the product and advice on how to do it. Good Luck!!!
- An idea - if you still have the bit that broke off can you superglue it back on? Otherwise it sounds as though you will need an electrician to replace the whole switch.
- change the fixture!!!
- you will have to buy a new switch
- inside the little plastic thing that the cord goes through will be tied with a knot undo the knot take of the plastic thing, get the other piece of string that broke of and tie it to-gether with the the piece of cord that's hanging from the light in a tight knot ,it will do until you are able to change the fixings. I hope this works.
- If the switch is broken, chances are that something else is broken on it too. I would say that by the time a switch breaks, the other parts are going bad as well. Light fixtures are very inexpensive, it is time for an upgrade.
- you need a replacement cord and one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290181271098 Buying a new switch from a DIY shed and using just the cord is probably cheaper though..
- yes looks like you need to get a complete fitting there not to expensive about 6 quid, turn off the power first and do a map of the wires and replace new one give me 10 please. good luck
- The little plastic thing is there to isolate the two parts of the string. This is necessary in bathrooms because of condensation. The string can become damp and conduct electricity and the end that you pull can become Live. This means that if you follow the advice to tie the cut ends together you risk electrocution. Under Part P of the Building Regualtions that would be illegal. You should be able to get a new cord including the plastic link bit from a decent hardware shop or ironmonger. If you can't then it's a new switch I'm afraid.
