bathroom light vs. nightlight?
I need to have a light on in the bathroom at night so that my daughter can see. She is not tall enough to reach the light switch, and I do not want her climbing on things in the dark. So, wich would be the most energy effecient? Plugging in a nightlight or leaving the bathroom light on? Any suggestions are appreciated.

- The most energy efficient is a bathroom light! smaller bulb less energy consumption , and you can even unplug it during the day Leaving it plugged in even if it's off still pulls energy. It depends how much light you need but a small lamp with a energy efficient bulb will work too (the bulbs are usually spiral) Good luck ....be green.
- You can change you light bulbs so that they are fluorescent bulbs which will save you money that way. They do have nice night lights that use very little energy that basically glow. They are a lot brighter than you may think. Its just going to be a preference but then again a trip to the store to let your daughter pick out a night light for the bathroom for her safety will be worth any extra cost.
- A nightlight! In most hardware stores and drug stores they have this particular kind of nightlight that uses a teeny tiny bulb, smaller even than the kind in say, a light up pen, to illuminate the area. The cover is a mint green color and something in the cover helps to spread the light without using low wattage. They are incredibly energy efficient. Never ever leave a light on overnight! Turn all your lights off when you leave a room and teach your daughter the same so she grows up helping the environment by saving energy.
- Get a nightlight. Get one that has a sensor on it so that it only comes on when it's dark. It will totally save you money as opposed to leaving the bathroom light on.
- There are lots of cheap night lights that have a photo cell on them that turns them off when there is enough ambiant light and they give enough light to see with in the dark of night. Get them at "dollar Stores" or any hardware store.
- well, in my bathroom i have a nightlight that turns on when you turn the light off but usually my dad is still up so it really doesnt matter for me but for you i think a bright nightlight (lol that rhymed)
- There are many options available today. Just changing the bathroom light to a new energy efficient flourescent bulb will make a big difference in the electrical consumption. But beyond that, available now are LED night lights that can use less power in a 24 hour period than a standard bulb would use in just one hour.
- The night light, but go to the store and look for ones that have LEDs. They'll give off the best light, and it'll cost you very very very little compared to regular night lights. http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-COLOR-CHANGING-LED-PHOTOSENSITIVE-COOL-NIGHT-LIGHT_W0QQitemZ280114635850QQihZ018QQcategoryZ20702QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.ca/LED-Nite-Lite-Night-Light-Automatic-Sensor-2-pack_W0QQitemZ220112106242QQihZ012QQcategoryZ20702QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Also remember not to make it too bright, if it's too bright, and very white it may trigger the circadian rhythm and signal her brain to wake up. Stick with something just bright enough for her to see what she needs, and maybe in the blue range as that is what we see at night from the sky naturally. Leaving the bathroom light on may likely trigger the circadian rhythm, again signaling her brain that it's morning, which will make it harder for her to fall asleep when she's in bed again. So go for LEDs, preferably in a blue tone.
- First, I would install a light switch pull so she can reach it. We had one of these installed for our daughter's bathroom. It was a long plastic star & glowed in the dark. Also, if you are going to leave a light on, there are many efficient nightlights on the market. These only cost pennies a year to run, and most have sensors to turn off automatically during daylight hours. Look at your local hardware stores for good selection.
- nightlights are more energy efficient
- We just bought an LED nightlight at Lowe's yesterday. I cost less than $6 and is guaranteed to last for 25 years. It has three colors - red, blue and white - that your daughter might like.
- get a nightlight that comes on when someone gets close to it. or even just a simple one. But remember those CAN cause house fires..... My parents use to leave the bathroom light on with the door slightly open for me.
- I would say refit your bathroom or other areas in your home if you choose with a sensor that knows when someone comes in and when someone goes out. You will save money in the long run! If that is not an option, you can also get those little lights that use batteries (use the recharge ones) that all you have to do is just push it and it stays on for a long time.
- the best one is nightlight leaving the light on will put to much on your electricity bill.
- For about $30 you can convert your light switch to a remote controlled switch. Then put the controller down low enough for your daughter to reach it. (The light can still be turned on and off at the switch)
- buy the clapper and hook the light in it. If she can clap it will solve your problem Touch lights use batteries. The blue led is a great idea but she is a child and may want more light than it emits at night. it is up to you but the clapper seems the best solution.
