How do I convert overhead fluorescent lighting fixtures to incandescent?

Public Comments

  1. need way more information on this one. there are so many types of fixtures that no one solution will answer all.
  2. Go to Home Depot, buy an incandescent fixture and replace it.
  3. They should have the same wiring. You may have to paint the ceiling when you change it.
  4. You can not convert a fluorescent fixture to incandescent (or visa versa). You will have to buy new fixtures. I would reccomend however that either you keep the fluorescents or buy new fluorescents. Flourescents use 75% LESS energy (for the same light output) vs. incandescents. They run cooler and last 8,000 to 30,000 (depending on the type) vs. 750-1,000 hours for incandescents. They also come in a variety of colors, or shades of white, ranging from the typical incandescent color to daylight.
  5. You cannot convert, you need to change the fixture. Wiring will already be under the fixture. Painting to cover where the current fixture is will probably be necessary and filling in a couple fastener holes.
