have existing house, need some renovation floor plans where do i go?

i have a large formal dining and living area that i want to convert into a bedroom for my 85 father, but by creating the wall and door for the room it really makes the entry feel very claustrophic. I am looking for some suggestions for this. If I do the room I would walk in the front door and have wall on both sides. HELP

1. get a local builder or an interior designer to help you on this,i am in the building trade and it can be tricky but with the right help and guidance it can be done.if you go to someone for help make sure they are a reputable builder,and also get a second opinion.hope this helps.
2. I agree with the above answer. You could also talk to an architect (major bucks there). It can be very worthwhile. Good Luck.
