Your opinions.....Best Home Alarm System?

Since a recent break-in of my garage, i was wondering what home alarm company does the best job and is affordable for the the service they provide? I would love to just get a trained german shepard but i have 3 cats..... unless the money i spend to get a puppy (so i can train it around the cats) will equal to the amount to what I would spend on an alarm system. what is your opinion?

1. the police, a large dog are the best deterrents. if your local police don't much care, it's time to move.
2. Alarm systems are what they are. There are several and all have the same basic technology. What really is important is the alarm franchise's service-- what they give you in terms of service and follow-through; what extent of collaboration they have with the local police. You can only really know this by finding out, by comparing based on what you need, and allowing the company to visit and give you an estimate at home. Go with what you feel 'and' think. Have someone with you so that you can be easier with what you are looking at. Someone else will help with the needed questions to ask. Sometimes you may do well to do both -- do the alarm system 'and' have a dog.
