Why do all of the house smoke alarms go off at the same time with fresh batteries and there is no smoke?

  1. All of them? Uh oh. Are they a new kind that are able to detect deadly gasses that might be floating around your house leaking from somewhere? if it was one going off I would say it was malfunctioning, but all? I would be very suspicious if I were you. Look into getting your house checked out
  2. Smoke alarms are only rated for ten years of use, then they need to be replaced. If you have an alarm system that includes the fire alarms, then when one goes off, they all go off. Excessive dust in the air or a build up of dust on the detectors can give you a false alarm as can an old alarm. Steam from a shower or cooking can set them off too.
  3. I had that happen. I had to buy new smoke alarms. If you do get one with a carbon monoxide detector.
  4. What everyone else said is correct. However I suspect you mean when you change the batteries. If so, you are suppose to test them monthly and everytime you replace the batteries. That could be a possible reason why.
