- you can put clear sealant on tile only after it has cured.you need measurements to start and can you buy or rent a tile cutter?dont think about those chipper cutters they only give bad cutswhen you have measurements requestion to me please.
- Go to Home Depot...Laticrete and Mapei both make and sell a spray on sealer for when your floor is complete. Why you would need a cutter for putting on sealent is beyond me. Be carefull though as sometimes a grout sealer will darken the shade of grout.
- Go to the tile department at a home improvement store like Lowe's or Home Depot and get a bottle of grout sealer. Unless you have a lot of tile, a small bottle (4 -8 ounces) will be plenty. Brands don't matter that much for this, so whatever's on sale is ok. To apply the sealer use a paint brush about as wide as the grout line in your tile work. Just "paint" the grout with the sealer. Don't try to rush this part of the job, and make sure the sealer is evenly coating the grout as you move the brush. I always start at the corner farthest from the door, and paint my way out of the room. When you are finished with the first coat go to where you started and see if it is dry. If so, start doing a second coat. If not, check back after about an hour if you can. It's also ok to put on the second coat a day or so later. Let the second coat dry for at least two days before using the area if you are doing a shower or tub surround.
- Grout sealer is a good idea, but it will slightly change the color of the grout. If you have to replace leaking plumbing behind the tile down the road it will be very hard to match the color exactly. Those are the pros and cons I guess...
- when you go to get the sealer you will have two choices: one that penatrates and on that is a surface sealer. The surface sealer will collect more dirt than it is worth, the penatrating one, at least makes cleaning it possible. You're best bet is to go where you bought the tile and ask them for their recommendation, it will be some sort of penatrating sealer
