How Can I Repair Vinyl Flooring?

We have 2 small cuts in our vinyl flooring caused by the drop of a jar. Is there an easy way to repair it? Thanks! I should add that I do know that vinyl is crap. However, we are renting and we need to patch it before we move out. I don't have any scraps of the flooring. Thanks for the answers thus far!

  1. Yeah you can buy a vinyl repair kit at lowes.
  2. yes use a hair dryer to heat the surface abit add contact cement under the cut, be careful not to pull up any more than necessary and apply a cloth over the area and use a weight on top to hold it down, like a brick, good luck
  3. vinyl is crap. Put laminate or tile over it.
  4. Yes there is if you have any scrap of the vinyl flooring. Line up your scrap with the area that needs fixed, then cut the scrap piece and flooring beneath at the same time keeping the utility knife vertical. This will make the hole cut out of the flooring and the patch the exact same size. Use a scraper to pull up the damaged floor and scrape up the old goo on the floor. Apply new adhesive to the floor and use a scraper used for vinyl flooring adhesive to smooth it out. Let it dry for the alloted time on the can, about 30 minutes. This allows it to get tacky and stick better. Then place the patch in the hole and use a rolling pin to roll it flat. Let it firm for a bit. Then you will want to clean the seams and put a sealer over the seams so the seams don't show. Then you're done. Repaired the vinyl flooring in my kitchen. Found out how to do it from the guy at Lowe's. When in doubt, ask.
  5. You can get a chemical weld product with which to repair vinyl at a local flooring store of hardware store. The best repair is if you have another piece of the flooring. You place the loose piece over the damaged area being careful to match the pattern and then cut thru both pieces with a sharp blade. You remove the damaged piece and replace with the patch. The edges can be bonded with the plastic welding compound and it will be difficult to see the bonded area.
  6. There is a vinyl flooring repair kit available at Lowe's, in the flooring department. Follow the instructions on the kit, and you will be fine. IF you find you need to put weight on the cut while allowing the glue to dry, then place a piece of wax paper over the cut first... or you'll be tearing bits of vinyl off of whatever you used to put pressure on the seam, lol. Have Fun!
  7. If you need a piece of "scrap" to follow some of the suggestions take a piece from an area that will never be noticed...like under the stove or fridge or take out one of the kitchen drawers and see if the floor continues under the cabinets,,
