what about vinyl flooring around fireplace?
We plan on replacing the flooring in front of the front door with flagstone (vinyl sheets). I would like to have the area around the fireplace (place that you kneel on to put in the wood) and the painted wall area between that (the kneeling area) and the mantle have the same flagstone vinyl sheets. Does anyone know if this can be done? Or am I just WAY too imagining design on this house?

- vinyl melts I would be concerned about sparks coming from the fireplace and landing on your new floor and melting holes in it. porcelain and ceramic tile has come a long way as far as colour and design - and can be about the same price as good quality vinyl...
