Will cats urinate on vinyl flooring?

I'm having my carpet took up and replaced with vinyl flooring because the odor is such that nothing will work anymore my cat has urinated so much in the carpet.Am I correct in thinking that they won't urinate on flooring? She never has urinated in the kitchen were the vinyl flooring is so I'm putting it in the bedroom, hall and her room. The places I can't afford to replace the carpet I will shut those rooms off when I'm at work.

  1. no
  2. Beyond the doubt of a shadow. You probably feed the cat in the kitchen and that is why it won't do the evil deed there. That is probably the only reason. Maybe you should have a litter box. Cats prefer a litter box that is kept clean on a frequent basis. They are very clean animals. Suppose you were locked in a house with no toilet. What would you do?
  3. I don't think that they would. I mean, I can't think of a cat that has // would.
  4. depends on the cat. They generally won't, but most cats use a litter box, not carpet. Just because you replace the flooring doesn't mean the cat won't pee there. Try adding a extra litter box in the area they are peeing in, and slowly move the box to the desired area.
  5. have you taken your cat to the vet to get checked out for a urinary tract infection? that would be a good start. you may have to retrain your cat to use the litterbox by closing him off in a small room with water, some toys and the litter box, keep the same feeding schedule and eventually will learn it has to use the box.
  6. As I have learned the hardway, vinyl flooring will not deter your cat from urinating. In fact, my little Lulu absolutely loved the vinyl and before I had her re-litterbox-trained it was the only place she would go. My home was a mixture of hardwood, vinyl, and carpet but it was the vinyl that held her attention. I would recommend getting Pher-Away, it is expensive but worth it. You will need to spray 6-8 inches over the spot of urination after cleaning it with something that is AMMONIA-free. It needs to be sprayed daily the first week, every other day the second week, and so on until you get down to 1x a week. Also, if you don't already have one, get your cat a litterbox. Pronto. A lot of cats don't like the kitty liners so be aware that might put her off a bit. I know folks will swear by those non-clumping litters, but my Vet actually recommended that we switch to that so I recommend a unscented clumping litter. Also, per my vet's advice none of the litterboxes are covered and they are not sandwiched between things like laundry machines and corners etc as apparently animals like to have more than one entrance in case they need to escape. Head over to your local PetSmart and purchase CatAttract, this gets sprinkled over top of your existing litter and it is guaranteed to work. Just don't expect it over night. You might want to take her to a vet to make sure that she does not have a urinary infection or even gallbladder infection. Depending on her age it might be time for a 'geriatric workup' which is around 7 years. If she has crystals or another type of infection it is painful and some cats want it out of them then and there and don't bother with a litterbox. Some cats also don't like to poop where they pee (finicky little felines!) so you might need a 2nd box. I ended up employing all of these methods, it took about 2 weeks but it worked. It definately is not an overnight accomplishment. And now, whenever Lulu goes outside the box I know to take her to the vet because chances are it's not behavioral with all teh steps that have been taken.
