Installing Tile Flooring Over Vinyl?
We have 1 layer of vinyl flooring in great shape but may want to install tile. Can we put the tile board over the vinyl flooring and then install a new tile floor. Thanks for any information.

- smart lady, you sure can
- You can definitely install tile over the vinyl. You may not need the any hardi-back, just some wet bed (as long as your floor is pretty level).
- yes you can but i recommend you use the backer board
- That is the way I would do it. One thing that I was told before I stated doing ceramic floors was that if you don't plan on using some sort of hardi backer then you have to have at least 1 1/4" (one and one quarter inch) of wood for a solid base. If you don't have that hardi board or the wood thickness your tile will eventually tend to crack along a plywood seam. If your on a concrete slab then don't worry about the thick wood or hardi backer. Just make sure that your mortar will adhere to the vinyl. Good luck and have fun.
- You can. Make sure you attach the backer board securly. The prefered way is to set the backer board in "thin set" over the sub floor, and then screw it.
