cons of vinyl flooring?

We have a duplex with a great room--would like to know if vinyl flooring would be a good idea for kitchen, dining and living room. I am concerned about dents in floor from furniture. If any one has experience with this type of flooring--please give me some advice. I am sick of carpeting but I can't afford to pay for ceramic tile or wood--is vinyl a good option?

  1. Vinyl is ok if you're sick of carpeting and can't afford the other stuff. Have you thought of maybe doing a little at a time? Actually I don't even know if you could do that (I don't know much about it really). But I know that vinyl can also be annoying. We had it in our kitchen and bathrooms. It was very difficult to clean. Dirt would get stuck in the little grooves and I would get down on my hands and knees with a scrub brush to get it really clean. A mop just wouldn't do it. Also it tore easily. We had a dog that just destroyed our laundry room by tearing it up.
  2. Vinyl is a good option. I used it in my laundry room. Its very durable and water resistant. It doesn't really dent, at least the ones I have bought in the past never dented. There are many cool colors to choose from. What ever you do, stay away from vinyl with a pattern indented on it. Dirt does get trapped there. Vinyl can look dated if you buy the typical vinyl, like the patterned type. I have found that a solid checker pattern can look really cool and modern. Hope this helps!
