can i tile over cork flooring?

  1. No, tile demands more than any other building material a stiff backing or it will break the thinset bonds, crack the grout and break the tile. Cork is the antithesis of what you want which is tile backer board.
  2. NO.... Cork flooring "gives" too much. It you did then your new tile would crack within days, if it lasted that long. Cork allows for too much movement. A tile floor has to have a solid, rigid base with no movement.
  3. Again, no, Ask yourself if you really want to. Maybe look into refinishing the cork. Cork is green, feels great underfoot, and looks great.
  4. No way! Rip it up. You don't want to risk laying all that tile on something that is not stable enough to support it. I would tear it up, put down cement backer board and then tile.
