Is the grain on hardwood flooring supposed to be consistant throughout the whole house?
My dad recently put hardwood flooring in the master bedroom and in one of our other two bedrooms. The grain for the rooms are positioned in a way that when you walk into the room it's parallel with the way you are facing. He left the hallway out when he did the two rooms, I don't know why. Now, he's installing the flooring in the hallway has has the grain running parallel with the hallway. Problem is, the grain in the hallway is now perpendicular to the grain in the rooms. I don't know if I'm right... but to me having the grain running perpendicular is wrong. My dad's argument is that it makes the hallway look larger. Yes, I agree but I don't believe he's doing it right.

- no, the grain should all run the same in the house. Well, let me rephrase that, I've never seen a house done the way your dad is doing yours. Unless you want your house to be different........which is good in some cases, just not this one, have him change it.
- It's great that your dad is helping out, but I'll have to disagree with his crossing the woodgrain direction. It should always run in the same direction.
- Leave your dad alone, I commend his taking the time to do it. What, your going to complain about it being unsuitable just because in one room it goes one way and the hall way the other. You should be thanking your lucky stars you have a dad period.
