laminate flooring and coughing?

We recently installed Shaw laminate flooring. As soon as I moved back into the house I started coughing and my lungs feel irritated. I moved back out and two days later I'm still coughing. Could this be from the flooring?

  1. It's not impossible. Some flooring is made on a fiberboard base, and it is possible that you are allergic to the fibers. Odds are not though, because the fibers that are generally used in laminates are the same as those used in cardboard boxes. (Different concentrations, and different glues, but the same base materials.) What is more likely is that in the process of putting in the flooring, the construction stirred up some dusts, dirts, and other less then desirable items. You probably have an allergy to those. Carpets are notorious for allowing dust to fall through the fibers, and after years, there can be quite a bit of ugliness lying under them. Recommend that get a good mask, some good dusters, a HEPA filter vacuum, and go at it. Clean the house top to bottom. Twice. Best of luck.
